9 - Murakami House and Boat Works

The Murakami Complex was the residence and boat-works for one of the first Japanese immigrants to the North American West Coast, and it is designated a National Historic Site.

These buildings have high heritage value because of their age, circa 1885 and 1928. After documentation, they were lifted and moved to allow historical-archaeological research on the grounds underneath them.

One of the uses for the accurate documentation, for example, was the recording of the precise position of each of its timber boards, during the disassembling process. The extremely detailed photogrammetric drawings plotted in large scale, allowed preservation experts to record on site and on the drawings, the keyed position of each of the building's planks.
