Pacific Coast Cannery

Historical Documentation: - The Pacific Coast Cannery, Richmond, BC, Canada. This 100-year-old National Historic Site was in an advanced state of disrepair and closed to the public due to safety concerns. 

As contact with the building was to be avoided, the site survey was executed with the measurement of elements away from the building (for scale and reference) but included in the photographs. The first survey, produced four elevations, one roof, one site, and one floor plan with accuracy of 1,20 cm (0.5 inch).

Three years later, a second comparative survey showed structural deflections and leanings occurred during this period. This monitoring of the structural displacements, assisted government authorities to decide upon demolition of the building.

Although the entire survey was executed with photographs taken from ground level, after all accurate 3D photogrammetric building information was obtained, a single photogrammetric model allowed the production of the floor plan.

Details of the East elevation. Different overlapping areas marked on the roof show the amount of decay in the 3-year period. The arrows mark the direction of deflections larger than 2.5 inches.
